| | "I'm Good I'm Gone" (Lykke Li) | ] | I had a really weird dream last night.
I wasn't in it. I was just watching it, like it was a TV show. (Shocking, I know.) Anyway, it was an "episode" of Friday Night Lights and Tami (Coach's wife) was talking to him backstage before he went before the microphones at a press conference. And she was telling him not to "mention Aslan because that's our secret." And he was like yeah yeah I know but when he went before the microphones he kept saying things like, "I think our team is really golden this year, like a lion's luxurious mane..." and then we would catch himself and try to cover and be like, "I mean, like a sunrise. Golden like a sunrise." And that went on for awhile.
And then, all of the sudden, it cut to the scene from the premiere of season 2 where Tami's having her baby. Except she's not in labor yet, she's just in a hospital bed, pregnant, and Eric (Coach) is with her. And Tami goes, "What did I say about talking about Aslan?" And a doctor walks in hodling a giant butcher knife and Tami screams "Don't kill my husband!"
But the doctor goes, "No, I'm just here to help you deliver the baby."
And she says, "Oh. OK."
And then I woke up.
This dream means one of three things: a) I apparently have a fear of bringing God into the equation in public places b) I have an inherent distrust of modern medicine c) I watch a lot of TV and take a lot of hallucinogenic mushrooms |

I'm really enjoying the people I work with.
And my God, there's so much food. Anything you could ever dream of, it's on the premises. I love craft services. Today for lunch, I had potato pancakes, a kielbasa with sauerkraut, and chocolate covered strawberries. Hell yeah. |

| | "Work" (Kelly Rowland) | ] | The pilot wraps next week and I knew that, as the last person hired, I would be the first to let go. I was told yesterday that Tuesday would be my last day. My boss said he would forward my resume to his friends and hopefully something else would come up soon. I figured it would lead to something...eventually. But that, you know, I would get a little break. So I booked a flight home to chill in Seattle for a while.
Yeah, well, I got a call today from a different pilot for ABC. I start there Wednesday. I told/thanked my boss and his response was about the same as everyone else's: "You can't just be unemployed, ever, can you?" How does this keep happening?
As the voice mail from my dad is right on: "Your God is an awesome God."
This next one will be single camera, so it will be fun to see how different it plays. Although it does shoot in Santa Clarita, so hello commute! (God, I hope I can sneak off to Six Flags sometimes). |

| | "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" (Michael Jackson) | ] | Yeah, we won Songfest again. We tend to do that.
This year's theme was (the kind of lame) "A Night With the Stars." But we made do with it and I think the results are pretty spectacular. Check it out below. Can you believe those dance moves?
I know the lyrics are a little tough to make out on the video so here's the gist:
1. "Don't Stop Til You Get a Shot" (set to "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough") sample lyric: Gossip/is our business here/Our cameras/Keep all the stars in fear...
2. "All Day" (set to "My Humps") sample lyric: We wait for them for hours/by restaurants and towers/Hopin' they make a mistake/So there'll be photos we can take/
3. "Photoshop" (set to "Physical") sample lyric: Let me see you copy paste (copy paste)/Change expressions on his face
4. "USC" (set to "SOS") sample lyric: I'm obsessive when it comes to just one school/And I'm compulsive about shouting "Trojans Rule!"/This thing's a phony/My loyalties are solid as stone now/I'm only ever in cardinal and gold now
5: "Famous" (set to "Dirrty") sample lyrics: No more chasing the FAMOUS/Making up stories ‘bout their LATEST/Escapades because they BLAME US/And then they SHAME US/It’s about time we tried to become HONEST/Offer real news you won’t DISTRUST/Truth in journalism: no more GOSSIP/This we PROMISE/Keeping that zoom lens off our cameras
Sadly, I didn't get to see it because I had to work til 11PM, but I showed up for the afterparty and it was great to see everybody. I'm so glad they still turn to me for occasional Yankovicization. |

| | "Where's The Love?" (Hanson) | ] | from Friday night Jess and I are hanging in the living room when Jon gets home and valiantly whips off his tie. Me: "I really feel like the moment you whip off your tie, 'Danger Zone' should start playing." Jon: "Oh my God. That's the last song we listened to at work before leaving for the weekend."
Anyway....
As some of you know, I quit my job on Friday and entered the world of unemployment. That lasted for about 60 hours. I ran into Alexis Davis at church and she shared the good news that, last Monday, she had been hired onto a pilot. I'm home from church for less than three hours when I get an email from her that says they need another person, am I up for it? On Monday, I started as a PA on a pilot here on the Paramount lot--6 minutes from my apartment!--and I couldn't possibly be more in love with the job. I'm running around a studio lot all day, I'm contributing to an actual show (well, it might be a show), everyone is amazingly nice and quickly welcomed me into their big pilot family, and I'm pretty good at the job and they seem to value my work. It's...foreign, but fantastic. The hours are a bit of a shock; I worked from 8:30AM to midnight last night, running scripts all over the city and was back in the office at 8AM this morning. But it's more than worth it.
Especially because I spent the long time in the car eating In N Out and blasting Gnarls Barkley and, when all else failed, Hanson. |

| | "Everytime" (Glen Hansard) | ] | As if my brother's adolescent proclivity for Jim Carrey mannerisms wasn't enough of a clue, let me state right now how much my family was into In Living Color. Never did an episode end without at least a few holler-size laughs echoing in our family room. Whether it was Homey the Clown not playing that, Fire Marshall Bill, Men on Film, Damon Wayan's Homeless Guy, and the physical comedy of Background Guy. Far before I tuned into SNL, I was watching In Living Color and, by extension, as sketch comedy as often does, I was learning about the world. Pretty much everything I knew about the LA Riots I learned from In Living Color as well as most of what I knew about the early Clinton years. Though we usually muted it during the musical performance--I don't think my any of us in the family were ready to sit through a 2 Live Crew concert or, even worse, Snow--I've come to realize just how large a role In Living Color played in shaping my idea of the America that didn't exist in my own backyard. It was brilliant and hilarious and, in a way, it makes crap like Little Man all the more disappointing. (Although even I will admit that White Chicks makes a lot of interesting and intentional statements about race, gender, and class. Yes, I said it.)
And so, I toast you In Living Color and embed a clip of our favorite character: Wanda. "I'm gonna rock your world" became an instant catchphrase; I remember my brother and I buying my dad a poster of Wanda with these words written across it. (I wonder if he actually hung it up anywhere.) It seems ridiculous to watch this clip now and know that 10 years later, Jamie Foxx would be an Oscar winner. But then again, his commitment to his characters really shines through.
